What is a Louvre on a blind?
A "louvre" on a blind refers to the vertical or horizontal slat, vane or “louvre” that can be tilted or rotated to control the amount of light, shade and privacy in the room. Vertical louvres are generally made from polyester or PVC and horizontal louvres are made from real wood, faux wood, PVC or aluminium.
What is the difference between shutters and louvre blinds?
The key differences are shutters are rigid panels, usually made of wood or faux wood, that are hinged to the frame. Louvre blinds, on the other hand, are made up of horizontal or vertical slats (louvres) that are tilted using cords or a wand. They're generally made of materials such as aluminium, wood or faux wood. In essence, shutters are more expensive and provide a more permanent window covering, whilst louvre blinds are more cost-effective and offer greater flexibility in terms of styles and designs.
Can you see through louvre blinds?
You can only see through louvre blinds when their slats or louvres are open. The level of visibility will depend on how far open they are. When the louvres are fully closed, they overlap and offer complete privacy, although some light may still filter through. The material of the louvres also has an impact. Solid louvres such as wood, PVC and faux are completely opaque, whereas some fabric louvres might be slightly more see-through depending on the fabric's thickness and weave.
